First Final Exam at CU

Posted in General, USA, Boulder:Colorado, University of Colorado, Boulder on December 17th, 2007

So it’s 12:16AM as I’m writing this now. I have my first final exam at 10:30AM. It shouldn’t be too bad as we are just doing some group work. Tuesday’s exams will be killers because I have one at 7:30AM then one at 7:30PM. I’ve studied for both briefly but need to read over the notes I’ve written all tomorrow after my exam finishes at 1PM. I’m glad that the semester is nearly over for me. I will have 2 days to hang out with my friends before I get picked up on Friday by Julie to spend time with her and her family before leaving Saturday afternoon. I’ve had a really great time here and I can’t wait to come back. Todor’s friend, Marisol is also here so its going to be great once I finish my exams and we can all hang out before the grueling flight home. Well, until after exams, expect some fun party pics of celebration once I get my head all through this! Wish me luck (though I hope I won’t need it)

Live panorama view of Boulder!

For work, we have permission to use these webcam images of Boulder. It is so beautiful.
The link is: http://csel.cs.colorado.edu/~floresjl/webcam/ and here is a little sample to what I woke up to this morning. (Edit: my script may be temperamental at times)

A visit through Todor’s iPhone

Posted in General, USA, Boulder:Colorado, University of Colorado, Boulder on December 11th, 2007

Ever since Todor got his iPhone and with the times I’ve forgotten my camera, he took some photos. Since some of them went back a while, I’m going to post to you some of the highlights and memories captured with that tiny camera. Enjoy!

Testing the camera!

I was so tempted to buy it, even if I didn’t own a Playstation

Chris was cold one night so we shrouded him in newspaper

Such a wonderful attempt at reading that book Chris!

I’m in the process of collecting more pictures from people so come back soon and see if I actually made the effort to put more up :P

14 days to make a difference

Posted in General, USA, Boulder:Colorado, University of Colorado, Boulder on December 8th, 2007

14 days is all I have left in the United States of America. It seems that everything went by amazingly quickly because I enjoyed myself too much. I was looking over some photos when I first arrived and I really would like to rewind the clock and revisit it again. It was amazing how I experienced the end of summer, how it was so hot and dry. And now, 8 days into winter, I’ve experienced the cold snowy weather. I’ve seen the green trees change color and then finally lose all their leaves. So now all I have left is 14 days. Even though I’ve done a lot I still feel that a lot of things are missing in this experience, not to mention the last 2 assessment tasks I have to complete, exams, packing my bags and organizing a lot of other stuff that needs to be taken care of before I leave. So enough about that…it snowed yesterday, just after the campus had dried up from the last fall…it was great. Here are some cool pictures.

Good old Hallett Hall, looking so majestic in this one

My first skiing experience at Eldora Ski Resort!

Posted in General, USA on December 2nd, 2007

I’ve been to the snow on countless occasions back home but I’ve never taken the opportunity to ski. Last night, Todor and I went to the Flatirons Mall to grab some last minute equipment for our trip early this morning. I got some waterproof pants and some goggles that had to be superwide to fit over my glasses. So this morning there was a little miscommunication about what time we had to be at Boulder Station and I called Todor and he was still in bed. Long story short, we all ended up getting to Eldora at the same time.

Fitting the ski’s and the boots was painful. They felt so uncomfortable for me but you get used to them. So as we got outside, Melwyn was teaching some basic stuff to Todor on the snowboard and Gaby was helping me with my skiing. Eventually, we got up to the mountain and started doing the real stuff. I fell a few times as expected but after a few runs I was feeling pretty confident. I did have a pretty bad fall though when my ski tip got stuck in the snow and I tumbled a few metres down the hill. It was apparently hilarious though. Todor had some spectacular falls also, but I only managed to grab a little one on video. So actions speak louder than words so here are some pictures and videos. Visit the entire gallery here.

A beautiful sight, considering that it is so hot back home

Gaby is the best ski instructor :P

Surprisingly, I wasn’t that cold
