June Update

Time does fly quick. I'll be at my current job for a year at the end of this month. I can still remember my old stamping ground very fondly. I do still keep in contact with some of my ex colleagues, it's good to see how time changes things. Probably the highlight of this month was the MIA Open Tennis at Griffith, NSW. Brandon Vescio, from Albury, took out the open mens title after a 5 year break from the game! From the grapevine, he played a lot of juniors in the generation that Bernard Tomic played in. The Area News has a little article on his achievement.

Andy won his first round in the opens but losing to Kyrgios in the next round 6-2, 6-2. I had an interesting 1st round. I won the first 6-1 (great I thought!), the next set was a series of service breaks until I eventually surrendered my serve to give the set 6-4. The final set, I was up 3-0...I couldn't keep focus and play as strong as I did in the first. Too many errors and I lost the 3rd 6-4. Well I guess that sets back my goal in getting any AR points this year (or ever!).

Burrumbuttock Tennis

I'm a few weekends late on this one. Better late than never. So in what seems to be a "series" of doubles tournaments, Burrumbuttock was the final one I think. It was a mixed tournament and Andrew and I struggled to find partners. We did show up though and we ended up with good teammates! Andrew and his partner came runners up, Ad's came first (trophy hunter ) and I assume that Kirsty and I came 3rd. Great fun and atmosphere with a good balance of competitiveness.

Bungowannah Tennis

Andrew and I played doubles in the Bungowannah round robin tennis tournament. The competition was pretty good. I think we ended up 3rd on our card. The games were based on two service games each and sudden death deuce. A bit unfavourable for scoring in my mind but it made the matches quicker. We managed to come across some foot faults as well. Now I can't stop thinking about where my feet are during my service motion!

Ducats Shepparton 2009

We watched Andrew's first round match at Ducats yesterday. He won 6-3, 7-6 but lost in his second round. He is paired up with the No.1 seed in doubles and is still in the consolation draw. I also got a few action shots of Larry and Tom.

The last week has been pretty hectic. As usual, we had the usual get together with friends but this time Pia, Jeff and Liz were in town to visit! Jeff and I had lunch with Liz and family during the day and towards the night, Jeff, Pia and I went out to Paddys before heading to One. On the Monday, Renee and Sam had their engagement party. It was quite fun and I had a lot of wine. Congrats on those two!!! The highlight of this weekend was the Wagga Wagga Tennis Tournament. I did feel I played a lot better than Griffith this time - probably because I've been playing a bit more. Andrew had a tough open draw and lost in 3 sets. We did however get to the semi's of the A grade doubles which was pretty cool! The highlight of the tournament was Andrew winning the 16's boys singles draw.

Sacred Heart Tennis Club Championships

Sacred Heart Tennis Club held their annual club championships after 23 years of absence. There seemed to be a lack of interest during that time but it was good that the ball got rolling again. Andrew won the open mens singles and I came runner up! Andrew and I also took out the open doubles and he took out the mixed as well. It was good that the weather turned out good as the forecast was rain.

Monday Night Tennis

I had to post something before this but I have it fresh in my mind (as it just happened just hours ago). So months ago, I was curious in starting up a Monday night tennis team. Our buddies, Dylan and Kristen seemed keen as well so we thought we might as well make a team for the Winter. Our team comprised of me, Andy, Dylan, Kristen, Nikki, Donna and our helpful subs: Monica, Dianne, Paul and a couple of other ladies that helped us very early in the season (thanks!). Our team name was Get-a-Grip, seeing as though the team had a strong affiliation to the coaching at the club. We had quite a dominant season and a few tough matches in the middle. Tonight we faced off the final with the Sideliners, winning 5 sets to 1. I think that the thought of getting prizes was more than enough motivation to play well, don't you think?

Multitalented

This past week, Dylan's dad - Bill had come to stay and visit Albury and the surrounding area. Most importantly, Bill is a tennis fanatic! He is such a steady player and also a handy musician. This afternoon he filled in a Section 1 place with the Thurgoona Cats. Dylan and Bill had a very convincing doubles win. Over the past week I've had the chance to sit down for coffee with them and my family also had lunch at Thai Puka! (Not fair )

Andrew, Ephraim and I had a hit at the Thurgoona tennis courts yesterday. Andrew got Ephraim 6-3 and he beat me 3-6. We then proceeded to play some American doubles which was quite fun. As per usual, we have the highlight reel of the day.

Andrew and I filmed another one of our matches last week but instead of uploading several games, I decided to compile a highlight reel of the match. Andrew beat me 6-4, 6-1 but I was sort of biased towards putting good points that I played in the video. Enjoy!
