Upgrade kit for my computer

My desktop needs an upgrade. I don't want anything fancy so I was looking at some budget parts. According to MSY, I can get my bare minimums for $171 which is quite good. The specifications are:

Asus P5GC-MX/1333 (Socket 775) $61
Intel Celeron 420 $48
1GB DDR2 $23
Case with Power Supply (needed for new mobos) $39
Total $171

I should also look into spending some money on a new hard drive as the new motherboards only come with one IDE connector. It wouldn't be wise to put the DVD-RW and hard drive onto the same connector. Hard drives are pretty inexpensive these days anyway. So my plan is to hopefully pick this stuff up in Melbourne during the Australian Open! yay :P

Portable Scanner

Just when you thought scanners were out of the market, scanshell-score.com has come up with a portable document scanner. Today, scanners are coming out as bulky and large footprint all-in-one printers which are hardly portable at all, but with the ScanShell 2000N you can take it on the road with you.

The portable document scanner is powered by a USB 2.0 port which means that there is no bulky power supply to carry around - perfect for those of you that have laptops and need to have it within reach. The ScanShell 2000N also has a unique quick launch button which makes it very convenient to start an imaging application associated with the scanner.

Included in the portable document scanner package is an imaging application called DocShell. This utility can scan documents and then immediately convert the image into BMP, JPG, TIF, PSD, PCX, PNG or TGA. There is also a business card scanning module included for Microsoft Outlook.

I believe that uni students would benefit from this just as much as business users would. Getting too many handouts during the course of a subject gets very disorganised if you aren't very organised (!). With the portable document scanner you can scan your lecture notes, tutorial papers and subject descriptions as soon as you get them and organise them on your computer as electronic copies - also perfect when your classmates don't turn up to class as you can email the image to them. Make sure you are not left without one today!
