The issue of Abortion in Albury has been a hot topic lately. There have been protesters protesting about the rights to women's privacy but I think it's no different to people in cars or people walking by seeing them enter the building. The Border Mail has several articles covering the issue lately:

Protesters clash at abortion clinic
Nurse fights anti-abortionists with umbrella
Anti-abortionists hurting businesses
Abortion protests ‘a failure’
Anti-abortionists secretly film clinic

I'm pro-life. Every life has a right to live. Here is a few interesting comments from The Border Mail discussion that I've compiled and a few responses that promote a pro-life argument.

So, are the protesters distributing information about contraception?
Posted by Barb Dwyer, 18/05/2011 9:49:31 AM, on The Border Mail

It seems to me that the fact that so many abortions are happening just indicates that the sex education isn't working and never would either. Why are there so many? You can argue about a womens right and ignore the childs right to life. You can choose to ignore the 90,000 abortions Australia wide per year and only a tiny percentage are done to protect the mothers life. It just shows that todays morals are just gutter morals.
Posted by Python, 18/05/2011 3:22:16 PM, on The Border Mail

How dare you film people while they are going through such a traumatic experience!

You are using the camera to scare women from going to the clinic and that is all.

The only reason people threaten you is because you wont get out of their way and make their experience more difficult than it needs to be. This is a hard enough experience for people without having to put up with you people 'trying to help'. What a crock!

Let people make their choice in peace!
Posted by Duchess, 6/05/2011 12:50:53 PM, on The Border Mail

I do not believe in abortion but I DO BELIEVE THAT EVERY WOMAN HAS THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHAT SHE DOES WITH HER LIFE.

I know of someone who went to a family planning clinic with the intention of terminating her pregnancy and after counselling decided she would carry on with the pregnancy, which produced a very happy mother, baby and a very meaningful relationship. Some of these women are desperate and so choose to terminate, some are also having a mentally or physically challenged child and decide that it is better to not bring a very dependant being into this world. Having a mentally and/or physically challenged child can cause a great strain on a relationship.......... How many parents in this country are raising a child with disabilities alone because the other partner cannot/could not cope.

"You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes."
Posted by rhubarb, 6/05/2011 7:34:59 PM, on The Border Mail

This is not a private matter.

Abortion is a very public matter.

Why?

Because when at least 10 human beings from our community die every week just here in Albury, that makes it a public matter.

Also, when tax payers dollars are used to fund abortion, that involves our money - that also makes abortion a very public matter.

When a human being is being murdered, legal or not, that makes it a public matter.

When at least 10 women are being possibly physically maimed, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually effected, that makes it a public matter.

When forgotten fathers and families are being affected, that makes abortion a public matter.

An unborn is not 'part' of a woman's body.

An unborn baby is scientifically proven to be a human being from the moment of conception - that he/she has their own DNA, it is an individual, not a part of its mother.

An appendix is part of someone - if an appendix is removed, a part of that person is removed. But if an unborn baby is removed, it is a whole individual human being that is being removed that is growing 'inside' the mother.

Have we forgotten that we were once this small?
I seem to spend a lot of my money on massages when I go to Sydney because we don't have the walk in massage places in Albury. The pedicure, well, I didn't buy that one. Leysa did and I got funny looks from people walking past the place at Hornsby Westfield. Lets just get one thing clear, I won't get a manicure haha. While in Sydney, I succumbed to purchasing an upright piano. It's not a well known brand - Kohler and Campbell, but its tone is very bright. I've just had to be weary of my practising hours. When I used my digital piano, I could practise at any time. I think the hours for acceptable noise levels are from 8am-10pm. Still hoping I can make the eisteddfod this year, but it could conflict with WYD2011 Madrid! The eisteddfod should be the least of my worries...I still need to practise up and learn new pieces.

It's the time of year people rush around getting everyone Christmas presents. I did some of my shopping tonight, thinking that it would be hard to get a parking anywhere. It was a lot quieter than I thought for late night shopping. The walk down Dean St didn't really catch my attention. As usual, Myer sufficed all my needs - so much easier having everything in one place. I used to be quite the Big W and Target man, but I've taken a fancy to the classy department store.

It's my first year at my place with a Christmas tree! The only pain now is packing it away and storing it. I dread the next Christmas when I have to pull it out of spider filled shed covered with cobwebs. I'll probably just buy a new one again next year...

I wonder what the new year will bring for me. A lot has happened in the past year - good times and unhappy times, but that's only natural. This year rekindled my relationship with my faith and I hope to always stay on track with it. Today is all we have - tomorrow hasn't come, yesterday has already gone.

During the term 3 NSW school holidays, Pia and I made our way into the Pacific Islands to a place called Vanuatu. As luck would have it, we were caught in the Virgin Blue computer problems on the way there. We were delayed over 4 hours and our only compensation was a $6 food voucher each. I even had to pay an extra $2 to get our two beers on the plane. It was pretty humid when we first got out of the plane. We were greeted by some local music at the airport/immigration, probably got ripped off on the taxi ride to the resort and our booking was apparently not on the system when we checked in - fun fun.

Vanuatu was pretty laid back but I was busy for 3 days. We did three tours. Hideaway Island (snorkelling), Abseiling at Mele Cascade Waterfall and a cultural tour at some village. Our other free days were spent chilling at the resort drinking our 3000 VT New Zealand wine, playing pool, going to downtown Port Vila and my favourite bit - 1 1/2 hour Thai massages!
